Position: Early Stage Researcher (ESR)
Home country: Italy
IPCOS Lab: QMUL
Start date: 1st February 2015

Biography
Luca Redivo was born in Pordenone (Italy) in 1990. After high school graduation he moved to Trieste where he studied chemistry at Università degli studi di Trieste. He obtained the bachelor degree in 2012 and the master degree in 2014. During the last year of the master degree he focused his experimental thesis in the field of protein inhibitors in Prof Fabio Benedetti’s research team. In particular he synthesized different peptidic structure based inhibitors of deubiquitinases enzyme. During this work he improved his knowledge in peptide synthesis, mono and bi dimensional NMR experiment for characterization.

In 2015 he joined prof. Resmini’s research group at the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences - Queen Mary University of London- where he started his PhD. He is employed on the IPCOS project as a Marie Curie Fellow Early Stage Researcher. He works in the field of MIP for the detection of caffeine and other xanthine.

In the free time he likes to hang out with friends, cycling, go to the swimming pool, listen to music and play guitar.

Anggy Gutiérrez Ortìz
Position: Early Stage Researcher (ESR)
Home country: Venezuela
IPCOS Lab: Università di Trieste
Start date: 1st June 2015

Biography
She was born in Santa Bárbara (Barinas-Venezuela). After high school graduation she started her studies in Chemistry, in a full time study program for five years at University of Los Andes (ULA, Mérida-Venezuela). During her Career she had the opportunity to study subjects as analytic, organic and inorganic chemistry and put them into practice at different kind of laboratories. During the last year of her career she focused her thesis work in homogeneous catalysis, In the Laboratory of Organometallics under the supervision of Prof. Fernando Bellandi and Prof. Ricardo Contreras, synthesizing cobalt complexes in order to employ them as catalysts in hydroformylation reactions. Also during her studies she worked as teaching assistant in the Laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry. She obtained her degree in 2012.

After her graduation she worked at the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) , in the Laboratory of Synthesis and Characterization of new materials, Under the supervision of professor Edward Avila. And After that She worked as Analyst of Quality Control in a pharmaceutical Laboratory called Laboratories Calox International of Venezuela.

In Free times She likes going out with her friends, doing exercise like pilates and listening to music.

Ana Oreski
Position: Early Stage Researcher (ESR)
Home country: Slovenia
IPCOS Lab: Università di Trieste
Start date: 17 April 2015

Biography
Ana Oreški was born in 1988 in Maribor, Slovenia. After high school graduation she enrolled in Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana, where she had focused on studying drug development substances and consequential drug analytics and control coupled with its application in pharmaceutical industry. During her studies she had proactively participated in a research project headed by Laboratories of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Clinical Biochemistry. Primary research aim called for organic synthesis of cinnamic acid derivatives, which show very high resemblance to compounds found in coffee beans as far as the synthesis is concerned, and their effect on leukemic cell lines under supervision of dr. Matej Sova, MPharm. Additionally, she has undertaken pedagogic role as a drug development teaching demonstrator, whilst also collaborating with Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia, conducting a synthesis of dual fluorescent spin-probes under supervision of dr. Janez Mravljak, MPharm.

Whilst and after successful graduation as Master of Pharmacy she has been working in pharmaceutical industry as regulatory affairs associate for companies Sanofi-Aventis, Sandoz and raPHARM.

In free time she likes to travel, write short stories, read, do sports and listen to music.

Angelo Monteiro

Position: Early Stage Researcher (ESR)
Home country: Portugal
IPCOS Lab: Queen Mary University of London
Start date: 1st October 2015

Biography
Ângelo Monteiro was born in Lisbon (Portugal). After high school graduation he obtained a bachelor degree in Applied Chemistry (Organic Chemistry Profile) at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (FCT-UNL) in 2011. Three years later, he obtained his master degree in Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry at Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon.

His interest in research started a few years ago. In his master’s dissertation he performed a phytochemical study of an African medicinal plant (Cleistochlamys kirkii) in order to discover new compounds and evaluate their antibacterial activities. At the same time, he was awarded a research fellowship, at Faculty of Pharmacy (University of Lisbon), in which he developed new libraries of spirooxindoles, phenylalaninol and tryptophanol derivatives with antitumor activity through potential inhibition of the p53-MDM2 inhibition. Additionally, he was able to evaluate the cytotoxic activity of spiropyrazoline oxindoles in cancer stem cells at Mario Negri Institute (Milan, Italy).

After completion of his master, he was awarded with a research fellowship at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (FCT-UNL). He was involved in the development of new Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) devices with permanent memory effect, to be applied in smart windows.

In leisure time he likes to travel, get to know new places, people and cultures, have fun with his friends, do sports (preferably handball), listen to music, among other things.
